Welcome to the list and ranking of best inventions of Imperator Rome. The game has 4 main tech categories. Martial, civic, oratory, and religious advances. All have good and bad inventions inside. So, I made a mixed ranking for all the top tier inventions from all categories.
Almost every invention giving aggressive expansion reduction and political influence increase is a God tier in my book. Because those two modifiers determine whether you can conquer entire world or not.
Inventions unlocking key buildings and key wonder effects also very important to get early on.
1. Material Science Path
This path has bunch of siege ability, siege engineers, and assault ability bonuses. All worth getting early because sieging forts takes decades in this game.
I rush these when I play Rome because Rome is about constant conquer.
2. Patrocinium
Is an oratory invention giving the most powerful political power bonus which is +25% monthly political influence.
Also gives +2.00 loyalty to all characters.
3. Imperial Challenge
Allows you to conquer entire empires in a single war. Wait for me Seleukid and Egypt!
It requires bunch of inventions. At least they’re useful inventions mostly focused on aggressive expansion and war score cost reductions.
4. Blacksmith Apperentices
Reduces heavy infantry cost by -10% and unlocks the best economic building in the game which is foundry. You also get to unlock -10% army weight, +2.5% discipline, and +10% heavy cavalry discipline bonuses on the way.
5. Open Religion
A religious invention unlocking the Great Temple building. Which is a God tier building that helps with religious conversion.
Also gives +2.00% integrated culture happiness.
Good thing about it is the fact that you unlock +3.00% unintegrated culture happiness along the way and get close to the Theological Collage which unlocks religious education wonder effect.
6. Gradual Economic Integration
An oratory invention unlocking the Grand Theater building. Which is a God tier building that helps with cultural assimilation.
Also gives -0.02 aggressive expansion change.
7. Petition to Minorities
Civic invention with immense bonuses such as +0.02 province loyalty, +3.00% unintegrated culture happiness, and -25.00% found city cost modifier.
It’s possibly the best invention for reducing overall province disloyalty.
8. Provincial Census
An oratory invention unlocking government traditions wonder effect which is the best wonder effect for province loyalty. With this you never experience any revolt.
Also gives 1 free province investment and reduces oratory provincial investment cost by -10.00%.
9. Approved Familia
Another God tier innovation from Oratory tree and is unlocked right after provincial census. And goes to the Patrocinium which is ranked number one invention on this list.
Anyways, Approved Familia adds 5 noble pops, gives +4.00 loyalty of characters and unlocks honored nobles wonder effect.
Honored nobles IV: +25.00% national noble output and +10.00% noble happiness.
10. Rerum Repetitio
An oratory invention Rerum Repetitio is almost mandatory for world conquest. Because it unlocks conquering traditions.
Also gives -2.50% aggressive expansion impact.
Conquering traditions IV wonder effect: Aggressive expansion impact -20.00% and war score cost -10.00%.
11. Dominance Through Enlightenment
Unlocks expanding culture wonder effect. At level IV, expanding culture wonder effect gives +40.00% pop conversion speed and +40.00% culture assimilation speed.
I mean it doesn’t get any better than that. It’s probably the best wonder effect in the game. Still, make sure to build wonders with economic bonuses first.
12. Quick March
Is a military invention unlocking the Force March unit ability. Which is honestly one of the most useful features in the game. It simply increases army movement speed by 50% during forced march. Perfect for catching troublesome AI armies.
This innovation also gives +5.00% army movement speed and coup other army speed and supply modifiers along the way.
13. Professional Training
Gives +5.00% + +5.00% discipline, experience, and unlocks the law that allows the recruitment of legions in the capital region. Now you don’t need this as Rome because Rome unlocks a superior law via event which is unlocking legions for all regions.
14. Cohorts
Gives +5.00% discipline and unlocks the law that allows the recruitment of legions for all provinces.
Again, Rome gets this law via event. So, you don’t need to unlock it as Rome. But it’s still worth unlocking for its discipline bonuses.
15. National Population Growth
Inventions giving national population growth are absolutely amazing if you’re playing tall. Because playing tall is meaningless unless you can grow your population.
There are 4 national population growth inventions in this game and all of them are in religious advances tech tree.
