Backrooms are scary. No-clip into backrooms and you are doomed! So, you must escape the backrooms no matter what. Otherwise, you’ll be eaten by entities, or even worse, become one of them.
Ever since Backrooms become mainstream, many related games started appearing out of nowhere. However, not all of them are great. That’s why I made a list of the best Backrooms games.
The games listed below are mostly survival-horror. You’ll be either hiding or running from entities while trying to figure out puzzles. So, I hope you like those games set in the backrooms. 16 amazing Backrooms games:
1. The Stanley Parable
As if real life didn’t have enough opportunities for existential crisis, let’s play a game that simulates one! (+95% positive steam reviews.)
The Stanley Parable is a video game that plays with the idea of choice and free will in a surreal, shifting office environment resembling the backdoors. You will feel disorientation and unease while navigating liminal spaces.
Even though it’s not a direct Backrooms game, it has high resemblances. Since it’s one of the greatest games of all times, I decided to place it on number one.
2. Backrooms of Reality
Backrooms of reality is an indie game created by a single developer, in 7 days. However, it’s one of the best Backroom games you can find on the internet. It’s free too!
You’ve just noclipped out of reality… As you explore the endless maze of yellow rooms and try to find your way out, you discover that the Backrooms are not as deserted as they seem.
It’s short but gold. You should definitely play it if you like Backrooms.
3. The Backrooms Game
This one is called The Backrooms Game. Really? Devs could be more creative in the naming. But the game is great. You can play The Backrooms Game FREE Edition via steam.
It’s a Backrooms game revolving around three rules.
- Venture as deep into The Backrooms as possible without going insane. (Sanity mechanic.)
- Check your watch every 30 seconds to “Remind yourself who you are and where you come from.”
- Don’t look at it. The entities I mean.
4. The Complex: Found Footage
The Complex Found Footage is a Backrooms game where you take on the role of an amateur filmmaker. That gives a new option to experience liminal world of the backrooms through a VHS camera. Of course, that increases the realism.
Game is 30 minutes long and fun while being completely free to play. So, add it to your playlist and give it a go sometime. Besides, it’s completely free to play.
5. Dream Logic
Dream logic is another liminal-space game. You start in your house and then suddenly noclip into the unknown world.
There are many endless places in Dream Logic such as yellow backrooms, underground parking garages, locker rooms, offices, etc. All big enough to lose yourself. So, it’s definitely going on to my playlist.
6. Enter the Backrooms
Enter The Backrooms is just another indie psychological horror experience about surviving infinity. Navigate vast and surreal maze-like structure known as the Backrooms.
The game has health bar, entities, and items / artifacts to collect in the backrooms. So, it offers a unique, RPG like Backrooms adventure.
Exploring is easy. Staying sane is the real challenge.
7. Noclipped
Noclipped is a first-person horror game with crafting mechanic. That means you’ll find lots of items during your exploration of the Backrooms.
Also Noclipped have hunger, thirst, and sanity meters.
There are other Backrooms games like this. But I like juggling between games and try new things. I suggest you do the same. Luckily for us, Backroom games are dirt cheap.
8. The Backroom – Lost and Found
The Backroom: Lost and Found is a horror adventure game with a coherent story. So, you know what you are doing, this is not a walking simulator like some of the Backrooms games. It’s free on steam.
You’ll need to solve puzzles, find hidden objects, and avoid dangerous creatures in order to uncover the truth.
9. The Backrooms: Survival
The Backrooms: Survival is a horror rogue-lite video game where you get to fight multiple different entities. Crafting is also a huge part of the game.
It can be played alone or co-op with up to six friends online!
10. The Backrooms 1998 – Found Footage Survival Horror Game
The Backrooms 1998: Found Footage Survival Horror Game is a horror game that simulates a lost VHS tape from 1998 that recorded a teenager exploring the Backrooms. Poor guy accidentally noclipped out of reality and fell into the world of liminal spaces.
You play as the teenager on the tape and navigate the Backrooms to unravel the story.
11. The Backrooms: Mass Extinction
Here is another Backrooms game. This one is working on both regular PCs and VR. So, if you want to try a Backrooms VR game, give it a shot.
The Backrooms: Mass Extinction features 7 levels, items, foods, clues, weapons, entities, and difficulty options. Even though it’s an early access game, the game is fun and runs smoothly.
12. The Backroom Project
Scientists made a new discovery about the Backrooms. Noclipping out of reality was a myth for long, but now it’s a proven fact.
Now you’ve assigned to the The Backroom Project as a scientist. You must go in, navigate, record, and experiment with this strange phenomenon.
13. Backrooms: Escape Together
Backrooms: Escape Together is possibly the best co-op Backrooms game ever. We play it together with my buddies and have a blast.
It’s a 1-6 player coop. We only did 3 players run, but im pretty sure the experience is more or less similar with any number of players. The game is designed that way, numbers not really matter that much. But more the merrier.
14. Inside the Backrooms
Inside the Backrooms is also a co-op game like the Escape Together. But this one has VR option unlike the previous game I’ve mentioned.
It’s basically a co-op online horror game can be played up to 4 players. Like all VR horror games, this one too offers an intense experience.
15. The Backrooms
Let’s wrap things up and end this list with the game called The Backrooms.
In this game, instead of noclipping in, you’ll enter the Backrooms via portal made by a scientist. It’s a fresh take and worth playing if you are fan of the backroom lore.
If you’re not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you’ll end up in the Backrooms, where it’s nothing but the sink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in.
