Religion as a topic has become a less and less of a taboo in media, literature, and comedy in the recent years. As a result, bunch of religion themed religious video games started appearing. I’ve took it upon myself to list the 10 bests among the games of religion genre.
First of all, I’m neither mocking nor promoting religion. This article is just about listing and ranking religious themed video games. That’s all. So, don’t be triggered no matter what you believe.

I wouldn’t classify any of these games pious nor blasphemous. They’re just for fun! If you’re going to take these games super seriously, I think you should skip religion themed games immediately.
10 religion themed games:
1. I am Jesus Christ
Are you ready to walk the earth in the shoes of Jesus? If so, let me introduce you to video game I am Jesus Christ.
The game features the story of Jesus from birth to resurrection. As Jesus, you can perform amazing miracles, interact with cast of biblical figures, travel the Holy Land, and become the Messiah.
Best thing about this game is that it’s historically accurate. So, if you’ve studied or somehow know little bit about the life of Jesus Christ, you’re going to love this game.
I am Jesus Christ features:
- Biblically accurate story.
- 30+ miracles to perform.
- Perfectly crafted locations and landscapes from 2000 years ago.
- 60+ characters from bible.
2. Moses: From Egypt to the Promised Land
3. The You Testament
The You Testament is the masterpiece of indie developer MDickie. It’s an open world RPG’ish game set in biblical era Jerusalem.
You can play as Jesus himself or someone else from his era such as a roman soldier, a gladiator, a disciple of Jesus, and even the literal antichrist. Will you repeat the biblical story or re-write it? All up to you!
The game has two versions. 2D is the improved version. Easier to play, polished, and fun. However, 3D version was much wilder and more fun. It’s also free too unlike the 2D version. So, choose the one suits you the most or play both versions just like I did.
4. Jesus Christ RPG Trilogy
5. Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth
6. Five: Guards of David
7. Kings of Israel
8. Constantine 2005
Let me take you back to 2005 for a game about exorcist and demonologist John Constantine.
Constantine is still one of my favorite religion flavored movies to this day. Just like TV series Supernatural. Anyway, Constantine the game is fully licensed and is using the model of Keanu Reeves from the movie. Which is one of the reasons why the game is amazing.
As for the gameplay, John uses cross shaped weapons, casts spells, expels demons, performs exorcism, and chants biblical verses to weaken his enemies. You’ll meet demons, angels, and even the Satan himself just like in the movie… Overall, it’s fun.
9. Dragon Age Inquisition
10. Crusader Kings 3
Crusader Kings is a medieval RPG about noble dynasties, court life, and of course historical Holy Crusades.
In this game you’ll have many interactions with your court bishop and even Pope himself. If you act pious, everyone will love you. You’ll be granted gold from church taxes. However, if you act blasphemous, everyone will treat you like a plague. Pope might even excommunicate if you practice witchcraft, kin slaying, adultery, and etc. I’m not even talking about crusades yet.
The Pope will call all Christian lords to the crusades. Targets would be holy lands, Muslims in Iberia, Norseman in Scandinavia, and anyone who’s threatening the power of holy church. Of course, Muslim nations will call a Jihad against Christians in response. In short, Crusader Kings 3 is as religious as it gets for a video game.
What else? You can go to pilgrimages, seek indulgences, display religious artifacts on your court, and fight against local heresies.
