The short answer is no. They don’t make PS1 games anymore. In fact, last licensed PS1 game was FIFA Football 2005, which was released on OCTOBER 12, 2004.
So, why do we see new games with PS1 graphics? Do they still make PS1 games? They don’t make PS1 games at all. Instead, indie developers create new PC games with PS1 graphics.
PlayStation Classic had blurry graphics, clanky textures, and bad FOV. That hardware limitations created an eerie atmosphere. One can say that PS1 games are like fever dreams. As a result, this old console hosted many amazing horror games.
So, modern indie developers want to take advantage of eerie PS1 graphics for creating horror games. These games happen to be both scary and system friendly. Therefore, PS1 graphics are perfect choice for low-budget indie horror games.
That’s why we see many new horror games with PS1 graphics. It’s easy to assume these are newly released PS1 games. But the truth is they’re just sophisticated indie PC games.
