bad fall damage games

Don’t you hate it when you set out to explore the wilderness in an open-world RPG and suddenly die to the falling damage… It was just one meter fall; how did I die? Well, there are some games with really bad falling damage, require you to be on alert all the time.

WORST THINGS IN RPGS

Fall damage is actually a good concept. There should be consequences of falling from a very high height. It’s realistic. However, what’s not realistic is to die to 1-2 meters fall damage, especially if you’re a demigod who just slain a dragon 5 minutes ago.

Games with ridiculous falling damage:

1. Skyrim

GO

No exaggerating, Skyrim was my second life at some point. I’ve travelled every corner of Skyrim. It offers the best wilderness and best exploration experience. Except for the falling damage…

I remember opening console and typing tcl to fly and walk through walls. I think it’s a valid strategy to take instead of frustrating yourself with a badly implemented fall damage.

This made me press F5 (quicksave) thousands of times while climbing a mountain. God, I get PTSD even from thinking about it.

Forget about me, even a lot of my companions died from a fall damage, horses too. All in all, Skyrim’s fall damage is unforgiving.

2. Kingdom Come Deliverance

GO

3. Fallout 4

GO

4. Red Dead Online

GO

5. Dark Souls

GO

6. Elden Ring

GO

7. Dragons Dogma 2

GO

8. The Witcher 3

GO

9. The Long Dark

GO

As if the game is not punishing enough, fall damage is also a huge problem in The Long Dark.

Surviving the cold, bears, sickness, hunger, and everything else to simply die to a fall damage is the most frustrating thing this game can throw at you.

Falling from two meter can also broke both your ankles. Which is even worse than instant death by the way. This game is really punishing. Better stay as far away as possible from hills and cliffs.

10. Deep Rock Galactic

GO

Is it because dwarves are short therefore, they suffer more from falling? I can imagine the discussion between developers about fall damage. -Hey, these guys are short, thus they should suffer more from fall damages! -Oo.okay.

The game is set in caves, which is a place you can fell down a hole very easily.

At least the game has consumables, items, and armors that is giving some fall damage resistance. Other games don’t even offer that.

11. Jedi Fallen Order

GO

Jedi Fallen Order is very punishing with the fall damage. Is it because the game is named fallen? Sorry, that was stupid. Anyways, fall damage is very high in this game for a full grown jedi warrior.

Luckily, you can disable the fall damage in options. It’s one of those rare games who offer you the option but even though I really hate fall damage, disabling it makes me feel like a wimp.

Though I wouldn’t judge anyone for disabling the annoying fall damage especially if you’re playing with a controller.

12. Minecraft

GO

Fall damage of Minecraft isn’t that high. However, you can randomly fall into deep pit while exploring the wilderness. It’ll suck and you probably won’t be able to recover your items. Same thing can happen when mining too.

Well at least you can repel the falling damage by putting a block to a spot you’re about to fall in Minecraft. Though that would require high level of reflexes.

There is also the feather falling boots that can be enchanted via enchanting table. It requires diamond boots and 30 experience level. Chance of Feather Falling IV is 2.7% which is making it one of the rarest enchantments.
