Religious cults always fascinated me. Watched many documentaries about them. Cults are absolutely one of the worst things in the word you can join. Most cults are actually illegal also. But none of that can stop us from joining or leading a cult in a video game! It’s a rare genre, yet I could fine 10 cult themed games. All great too.
Cult is a relatively small group which is typically led by a charismatic and self-appointed leader by definition. The leader excessively controls its members, requiring unwavering devotion to a set of beliefs and practices which are outside the norms of society most of the time. Who would want to be a part of that? The leader of course!
Best cult games:
1. Cult of the Lamb
Cult of the Lamb looks like a super cute game from outside. However, it’s about amassing a cult and sacrificing cult members for gaining power.
Gameplay kinda reminds me of Don’t Starve and Animal Crossing. “Responsive roguelite adventure game, with base building”
2. The Shrouded Isle
3. Honey, I joined a Cult
4. Cultist Simulator
5. Crusader Kings 3
In Crusader Kings 3, you can reform unorganized religions like Asatru and Tengri or create a new religion by yourself. custom religion, temporal religious head, passes to your son.
To reform or create a new religion, you must take prophet perk in learning lifestyle and go to couple of pilgrimages for accumulating enough piety.
As a founder of a new religion, you can introduce adamitism (everyone will be naked), cannibalism, reincarnation, sun worship, esotericism, astrology and other weird stuff to your followers.
Then there is also witchcraft which is a completely different mechanic. It’s the secret worship of horned God. You can only become a witch by meeting another witch via events or via initiation / invitation from a family member who is a witch. Once you become a witch yourself, you can invite family members or vassals with high relationship. End goal of witchcraft is to create a witch coven and host grant rite for immense bonuses.
6. Stellaris
megachurch
7. My Life as a Cult Leader
The game does have some +18 scenes and moments that can be considered hardcore for some. But that’s what the cults are about most of the time right? So, just make sure you are in the right environment. Because it’s not safe for work!
8. Worship
9. Hexoria
Hexoria is a turn-based roguelike deckbuilder game about leading a cult in a small town. Basically, it’s the cuter and the easier version of the Cultist Simulator. So, if you tried Cultist Simulator but couldn’t get into it, try Hexoria instead.
10. Re-Legion
