There are many RPG games, but only few of them allows you be a necromancer. I can’t understand this concept. Why don’t you let us be necromancers… It is the most fun class of all. Anyway, I have found some RPGs that allows necromancy. As a matter of fact, I have listed the best 15 necromancer role playing games below.
Raise the dead and make them fight for you! Become the deadliest necromancer of all times. Will you be an evil necromancer, or a good one? Some games give you this choice but some of them aren’t. So, let’s start the list games that lets you play as necromancer:
1. Undead Horde
Undead Horde is a villain protagonist role playing game. It has all the elements in it such as RPG, strategy, hack & slash, adventure, and action.

You basically become a necromancer, raise the undead horde, and maraud through the lands of the living.
Raze villages, and steal treasures. You have the whole kingdom waiting for you to defile in front of you.
2. Iratus: Lord of the Dead
Iratus: Lord of the Dead is a turn-based tactical roguelike RPG. Where you play as an angry necromancer, who wants to reach the surface world and bring death to all mankind.
It’s game-play is almost same as the Darkest Dungeon. With its own twists and turns of course.
Even if you don’t like turn based 2d games, I recommend you to give it a shot. Because it is perfectly made and maybe will make you love the genre.
3. Divinity Original Sin 2
Divinity Original Sin 2 have many classes, including necromancer. It is pretty fun to play. Necromancer class have 17 fun skills. Still, you can invest in one more skill tree too. Preferable conjuration, because it really goes well with necromancer.

DOS2 is a party based isometric tactical RPG from the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian Studios creates amazing role playing games and thankfully they don’t mind including playable necromancer class.
4. The Elder Scrolls of Skyrim
Most of you already knows this but Skyrim is a huge open world RPG with many choices. You can become anything you want in it, even a powerful necromancer.

As a necromancer, you can summon zombies and re-animate dead thralls in vanilla game. However, I recommend you to use some of the Skyrim necromancer mods I have shared above. Because they make role playing as necromancer much more realistic and fun.
5. Last Epoch
Last Epoch is time travel themed dungeon crawling RPG. Just like Divinity Original Sin 2, it has a necromancer class in it too.
You can expect +15 mastery class including necromancer and over +100 skill trees. Therefore Last Epoch is a highly re-playable game.
Even though it is an indie early access game, Last Epoch is super fun nonetheless.
6. Diablo III
Diablo 2 had necromancer class. However, developers did not include necromancer class in Diablo 3 at the start. Instead, they decided to implement it with an expensive DLC. What a bummer… It even feels like a scam.
Anyway, with Diablo III: Rise of the Necromancer DLC, you can play as a necromancer in Diablo.
Even though it is a hack & slash game at the essence, you can still find some RPG elements in Diablo 3. It is really an enjoyable cult classic game, especially if you are playing with friends.
7. Dragon Age Inquisition
It is possible to become a necromancer in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Most people didn’t know that, including me until recently.
You can specialize your mage as a necromancer in Dragon Age Inquisition. However, being an evil character in DAI is not really possible. Still, you can be a huge asshole by choosing the meanest dialogue options.
8. Path of Exile
Path of Exile is the biggest hack & slash isometric RPG game of all times. It has thousands of skills, abilities, and attributes. As well as huge campaign. Basically it is better and more complex version of Diablo.
Choose necromancer among 19 classes and begin your journey in POE’s dark fantasy world.
9. Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous
Pathfinder is one of the best isometric RPGs of 2020s. If you have played and liked BG3 or DOS2, now it is time to play Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous.
It is really a true RPG with impactful choices. You can either become champion of light, or the bringer of death. You need to choose the second one to become a necromancer of course.
10. Grim Dawn
Grim Dawn is just another hack & slash action RPG with necromancer class option. However, in order to play as necromancer, you need to buy a specific DLC.
The Ashes of Malmouth DLC for Grim Dawn adds a new necromancer class. If you are looking to play as necromancer in a Diablo like game, go for it.
11. The Necromancer’s Tale
Step into shoes of a minor noble in the 18th Century, drawn into necromancy. Seek knowledge and revenge. But beware, the more you get into it, the more you descend into madness.
The Necromancer’s Tale is a a story-rich gothic RPG. Where you get to converse with +150 NPC. Investigate, negotiate, coerce and flatter. Also be careful whom you cross. Because if they find out about your dark secret, you might be tried in court and hanged.
12. The Unliving
The Unliving is a pixel-art RPG action with beautifully designed characters, and landscape. Don’t let the image fool you, watch a gameplay video and you will know what I am talking about. Gameplay looks and feels, brilliant!
You, a might necromancer denies death and leads legion of the dead. With only two things in mind, burning cities down and slaying epic heroes!
Anyone you have killed can be reanimated too. An unending rogue-like adventure awaits!
13. Swarm the City: Zombie Evolved
Swarm the City: Zombie Evolved is a RTS – RPG villain protagonist game where you play as the King of the Dead.
Raise the dead, create zombie legions, and destroy human cities to rule the world once again.
It has many elements to make it super fun such as cartoonish graphics, excellent voicing, quirks, and etc.
14. Alaloth: Champions of The Four Kingdoms
Early access game Alaloth: Champions of The Four Kingdoms released in 30 Jun, 2022. It is an action RPG with deep narrative and highly promising for an indie game. Gameplay is super fun too. Besides you can play it with your friends. Either via online co-op or split screen with controller.
Necromancer class is included of course. All in all, Alaloth is a great isometric RPG to play in 2022 and I recommend you to give it a shot.
15. Choose Your Story – Necromancer
Necromancer is a game from choose your story platform. A grimdark fantasy story-game by EndMaster.
It is a text-based RPG. It is actually more story than a game. Or a combination… This interactive fiction game let’s you do many choices. Some will be easy, some will be really hard. Eventually you will become a powerful Necromancer. Unless you get killed by Paladins.
