There are billions of games where you can marry, have family, raise children, and do similar stuff. But there are only few video games with adoption. It’s a niche thing in games but I still managed to find 10 games allowing you adopt children. What to do if your character is infertile? You adopt children to continue your lineage!
RPGS WHERE YOU CAN HAVE FAMILY
Family oriented games are the ones allow you to adopt children. Except Skyrim like games where family building stuff is optional only. Got few games like that on this list too.
To be honest, starting a real family in this day and age is really hard. Is having a family in video games a cope method? Who knows…
10 games with adoption:
1. The Sims 4
2. Skyrim
3. Guild 3
The Guild 3 is a mix between The Sims, Crusader Kings, and any tycoon game. You get to start from scratch as a random peasant in Middle Ages, then build your dynasty.
It’s actually a business sim where you can buy and run multiple medieval businesses. But naturally as the time passes, your characters will grow old. To continue the game, you must have heirs. That’s when the marriages, woohoo, and adoption comes into play. You can make children with your spouse, but it might not work all the time. Luckily, the church will allow you to adopt a child if you have the finances.
4. Crusader Kings 3
There are two ways of adopting a child in the Crusader Kings 3. One is a court decision, and the other is feral child encounter event. You can adopt a noble or lowborn child via random court event. If you adopt a noble child, your dynasty members will be very unhappy. If you adopt a lowborn, nobles of your realm will be unhappy. So, adoption is a though choice in Crusader Kings 3. However, if your ruler is infertile, adoption is the only way to prevent game over.
Adopting a feral child is much more interesting. A random feral child can follow your entourage during your travels. To trigger that event, go to pilgrimages, feasts, tournaments, etc. Once the feral kid appears, you’ll have a chance to mentor the kid. If the mentoring is successful, your character will bond with the feral child and will have an option to adopt.
