Welcome to the compilation of most memorable video game friendships of all times. These guys and gals are the prime example of brotherly love. Don’t get wrong ideas though. No homo bro.
Some made you cry, and some will make you cry. Sometimes I wish I had real-life friendships like the ones in the games… Well, it is what it is. We’re living in an era where people are alone in crowds. Old friendships are broken.
Top 16 video game best friends:
1. Joel & Ellie
The Last of Us Part is a story rich adventure game set in a post-apocalyptic world, where infected and dangerous people run rampant.
Main characters of story are 14 years old Ellie and Joel who is tasked to smuggle her out of a military quarantine zone. They’re odd duo but the journey brings them closer.
Joel considers Ellie a surrogate daughter and she starts seeing him as a father figure by the end of part 1. They both have lost their actual father daughter and only have each other after all.
I think theirs is one of the best friendships in video games. We see it develop through the game as they go through hardship.
2. Geralt & Regis
Geralt in Witcher 3 has many friends. The game is filled with interesting characters and interactions after all. But you can have one best friend and I think Geralt’s best friend is high vampire Regis.
You may say what about Dandelion? Well, he might be his best friend book-wise, but we don’t see that too much in the games.
Geralt’s friendship with Regis depicted far better and more believable. They both care a lot for each other.
Am I biased because Regis is the best side-character in Witcher 3? Well, you’ll be the judge.
3. Dragonborn & Inigo
Inigo is the deepest and the most popular follower in Skyrim. (Coming with a mod.) He is a fully voiced Khajit companion with over 7000 lines of unique dialogue, much of it about Dragonborn. Skyrim’s vanilla followers only have around 15 lines at most…
If you haven’t played Skyrim with Inigo, you missed a lot. The guy will be your best buddy in no time. Want more? Yes, you can marry Inigo in Skyrim.
Even Todd Howard (creator) said Inigo is his favorite follower created by the fans.
4. V & Jackie Welles
Jackie Welles is the first friend of V in Cyberpunk 2077. He’s also V’s best friend. Very cool dude. (V is the player character by the way.)
At the very start of the game, Jackie introduces V to the Night City and to its underworld. They aim to become a Night City legend together.
Jackie is a guy values friendship, loyalty, and family above all else. No wonder why he is a good friend and the best character in Cyberpunk 2077.
5. Arthur Morgan & John Marston
The best friendship in Red Dead Redemption series is most definitely between Arthur and John.
Firstly, both raised by Dutch. He took the two orphans under his wings, teach them everything, and introduced Arthur and John to the gang. Secondly, they grew up together and went through hardship together. This certainly brings them closer.
At the start, they have a beef because Arthur is angry at John for ditching the gang for over a year. However, the beef is only temporarily, these things happen between brothers you know.
6. Nathan Drake & Sully
Nathan Drake is the main character of the Uncharted franchise who is a professional treasure hunter. Victor Sullivan (Sully) is his friend, mentor, and the father figure. Their friendship show itself in many ways throughout the series.
Journey of the two began many years ago. Drake was nothing but a teenage runaway and street urchin back then. Sully took him under his wing and taught him many things about both treasure hunting and life itself.
Sully has a reputation of a backstabber in the underworld. He literally wronged everyone except Nathan. They’re practically family.
7. Ezio Auditore & Leonardo Da Vinci
After the execution of his family and his exile made Ezio a very lonely person. He had no family, no friends, and no comrades for quite a while.
Then he reunited with his uncle Bartolomeo and sister Claudia. And made many friends such as Machiavelli, Caterina Sforza, Lorenzo de’ Medici, La Volpe, and even Prince Suleiman I.
But Ezio’s best friend was always Leonardo Da Vinci. Their friendship is heartwarming. Leonardo made bunch of gadgets and war machines for Ezio. He even crafted him a primitive hidden pistol. Which is something unimaginable for the years 1476 – 1499.
8. Commander Shepard & Garrus Vakarian
Player character Commander Shepard has many friends, companions, and crew members in the Mass Effect series. Though one friend stands out above all. His name is Garrus Vakarian.
Garrus Vakarian is a Turian alien who joins Commander Shephard’s team to defeat the Reapers. I’d say he is his best friend and the best written character in the Mass Effect franchise.
I mean the guy has best writing, most screen time, deep lines, and a cool voice. Garrus is literally everyone’s favorite.
9. Michael & Franklin
Michael De Santana is the father Franklin never had. They have a father-son and mentor-mentee relationship, also friendship. Michael described Franklin as the son he always wanted in one instance.
There is also a mutual respect between them which is highly valued in the criminal underworld.
Trevor is the wild card of the team. Wouldn’t call him a real friend, he is more like a business partner to both. But I think Michael and Franklin are truly friends.
10. Wei & Jackie
Wei and Jackie are best friends, they always stick together.
The thing is Wei is a secret cop and is indeed using Jackie to enter gangs. However, their friendship becomes more and more real as they overcome hardship together. The only reason why Wei is not revealing his secret identity to Jackie is to protect him from danger.
They both follow their path in the gang but loyalty between them is never shaken.
11. Marcus Fenix & Dominic Santiago
We witness the friendship between Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago in the Gears of War series. Marcus and Dominic are childhood friends already. Then they become like brothers after fighting hardcore battles side by side.
All in all, they’re just two hardcore military guys and brothers in arms that went through unimaginable horrors of war.
12. Ori And Naru
Ori is a little glowing spirit who got lost in a storm in this magical world. Naru, a gentle giant spirit is the one who finds and befriends Ori like a lost puppy.
Then their journey begins! The two quickly becomes inseparable. They collect fruits, build bridges, laugh together, and try to find the spirit tree.
It’s a magical, comfy, and hearth warming journey. Go on and Play Ori and the Blind Forest if you haven’t already, it’s totally worth your time.
13. Ratchet & Clank
Ratchet and Clank are the best friend protagonist of Ratchet & Clank video game series.
Ratchet (feline humanoid mechanic) and Clank (sentient zoni robot) are travelling through universe and saving it from evil forces. Their adventure is pretty similar to the guardians of the galaxy.
After going through endless struggles and challenges, they become like brothers that’ll do anything for each other. Hold on, I’m not crying, there’s just water in my eye…
14. Snake & Otacon
Whoever played Metal Gear Solid knows that the Otacon is his real friend and one of his reliable allies. Both MSG1 and MSG2 reveal how strong their friendship is.
Snake and Otacon establish an anti-metal-gear philanthropy group together right after the MSG1. Not only friends but also partners in business and philanthropy.
Some even suggest that Snake and Otacon are in love because they’re very close… But those are people who don’t understand real friendship and brotherhood between men.
15. El Presidente & Penultimo
Penultimo is El Presidente’s right arm and is always on his side, all the way from colonial era to the modern ages. Their friendship is unbreakable.
If the God emperor El Presidente has a friend, that would be no one but Penultimo. The guy killed opposers and cheated ballots for El Presidente. Literally devoted his life to his leader.
He is my favorite character in all Tropico series. Some may call him a sycophant, but I really love his interactions with the El Presidente.
16. Max & Chloe
Max and Chloe were already close friends before the horrible circumstances they found themselves together in The Life of Strange story. Naturally the events and traumas bring them even closer as very good friends.
There is also the romance route between them but it’s optional. It’s up to the player whether they stay close friends or become lovers.
All in all, friendships from childhood are the strongest ones. Max and Chloe are very lucky!
