One must use hotkeys to play Dawn of Man as intended. Yes, you can play Dawn of Man with zero hotkeys but that would be counter intuitive. What can I say? Dawn of Man is just one of those games that must be played with shortcuts. It’ll save you lots of time, help you understand the game better, and improve your quality of gaming. It’s just a no brainer to me.
What are the most useful hotkeys in the Dawn of Man? My number one favorite hotkeys are F7 (tech), Tab (primal vision), F4 (production limits), 8 (knowledge progress), space (pause), and enter (return to settlement).
I constantly press F7 to see where I’m at in technology and progress whenever I have enough knowledge. Hotkey 8 is best for learning about your knowledge progress. It shows how many new buildings, tools, or resources you need to gain extra knowledge.
Tab is the hotkey of primal vision which is useful for hunting animals and finding resources like ores. Then you can simply press enter to return to your settlement without any delay!
Production is also very important. You can press F3 to see all your resources and press F4 to limit production to save your workload from unnecessary work. Hotkey 7 is also very useful for the workload in the harvest season. You can see the active tasks and cancel them for a better one like harvesting crops via the Tasks menu which is accessible by simply pressing 7.
These are the essential Dawn of Man keyboard shortcuts I would recommend.
You can always edit Dawn of Man gameplay shortcuts and the key bindings in the settings. Though you need to save your game and return to the main menu to access settings > controls.
