Playing video games with subtitles or no subtitles? Two different options. So, which is the best? It depends on the game, on your language, and of course your preferences. Let me expand on that.
SHOULD YOU STOP USING FAST TRAVEL?
Most, not even the most, almost all video games have that subtitle option. You can turn it on or off any time you want. I prefer to put subtitles on for couple of reasons. For example, I can read faster than I hear the dialogue and skip easily. Is it ADHD? Perhaps… Also, I can read, see, remember everything and miss nothing when subtitles are on. That’s just me though.
Pros and cons of playing games with subtitles:
Subtitles | On | Off |
Immersion | Immersion breaking. | Realistic gaming experience. |
Focus | Distracting. | Can focus better. |
Memory | You’ll remember more. | Ear memory only. |
Not a Native Speaker | You’ll understand more. | Might miss stuff depending on your English level. |
Consciousness | You’ll never miss anything. | IF characters speak over each other, you’ll miss stuff. |
Learning | You can learn English words. | You can learn English pronunciation. |
All in all, playing with subtitles has its pros and cons. All depending on the players English level, type of the game, and the purpose. So, it’s your job to decide which is better for you.
If you can’t decide, try this: Play for an hour without subtitles, then turn subtitles on, play another hour. That’ll give you the insight you need to decide which one is the best.
