I feel like ME2’s companion quests are almost not even side quests. If all it takes for a quest to qualify as a “side quest” is to be optional, then of course they fit the description, but they are such a big part of that game that they really don’t feel like side quests to me. ME2 is almost structured like a TV show and each of those companion quests feel like an episode of that show. Skipping those quests would be like skipping all the “filler” episodes in a season of TV. You’d still be able to follow what’s going on, but you’d miss out on a lot of great moments and character development.

9. Kingdom Come Deliverance
Kingdom Come Deliverance. Some of the side quests are boring, but many of them are fucking great; very well written with great characters. Some of them are just hilarious. The priest quest and the tripping quest come to mind, but there are others that are great as well. Side quests with Hans Capon are always fun too bc he’s a great and funny character. Almost all the side quests feel meaningful. This game is up there with TW3 when it comes to RPG open-world gameplay and great writing. Very historically accurate too, if you’re into that. I’m learning so much about European/Catholic/Bohemian history. It really emulates the life of that time, almost like a medieval time machine simulator. So fucking immersive, its fantastic.
10. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
That’s a fair point. They aren’t all memorable, but I thought the game did an amazing job at making you suspect everyone as an Illuminati agent. You’re constantly wondering if you can trust anyone at their word. You never got that level of intrigue with HR, because they are all pretty explicit about not being Illuminati.
