I love fighting games because I grow up playing Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, King of Fighters, etc. Fighting games are amazing. But, in this day and age, 2D fighting games feels boring. Nowadays I prefer open world fighting games where I can explore, pick/choose my fights, and interact with world while doing so.
Another key point to this, I like open world fighting games because of the realism. You find yourself in a big world, can train your character, make allies, get powerful, and enjoy mass brawls. You can do none of that in 2D fighting games. They only offer fight after fight, very linear.
