When you watch a movie or read a literature about zombies, post-apocalyptic times, etc., the most important thing is scavenging in the end of times scenario. You must gather resources for survival! Most games lack that essential scavenging aspect… So, I’ve made a list of the real deal scavenging video games. One must survive at all costs!
So, what are you waiting for? Start playing one of those survival games below and start salvaging and scavenging! Do it all the way, scrape the barrel because you’ll need every last bit of resources.
20 best scavenging games:
1. This War of Mine
2. Dysmantle
Dysmantle is the ultimate scavenging game because it’s all about dismantling and salvaging.
3. Scrap!
4. Project Zomboid
Very hard and is have a steep learning curve. But it’s also highly realistic. A good tradeoff I say.
In truth, Project Zomboid is the most realistic zombie survival game ever. However, it’s very underrated because of how hard it is to play.
If you really want to get into it, better watch some tutorial videos online. Otherwise, you’ll probably quit the game very early.
All in all, Project Zomboid is a top tier scavenging game set in a zombie apocalypse.
5. Raft
Raft is one of the most fun co-op video games. (Can play single player too.) It’s very casual, calming, and actually rewarding.
In this game, you start as a boy lost in the vast ocean with nothing but a tiny raft and a hook. You must sail across the ocean, salvage ocean debrii, gather resources from small islands, and upgrade your raft into a livable mobile base. There’s also sharks in the water and wild animals in islands.
It’s so much fun to play. Now I have to convince my buddies to play Raft together again.
6. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series
7. Chernobylite
8. Hardspace: Shipbreaker
9. Fallout 4
Now that we have the Fallout TV series, I think it’s a good time to get back into Fallout 4.
As you know, Fallout games set in a post-apocalyptic world. Naturally it’s the perfect setting for those who enjoy scavenging.
Now the story of Fallout 4 is not really great compared to older Fallout games such as New Vegas, and Fallout 2. However, Fallout 4 is the most advanced one and has the best graphics. So, definitely worth getting into.
The gameplay is very simple. You explore a new place, clear it out, salvage, collect scraps, and return to your base to build / upgrade stuff. Very satisfying.
