Guarantees a thing in HOI4 that every expansionist player hates. As an expansionist player myself, I physically cringe when an Allies nation guarantees my next target. So, what do I do next? I don’t want to go into full scale world war over an insignificant small country. Do guarantees expire in HOI4? Or do they stay permanently?
Lets go step by step. HOI4 do guarantees expire? Unfortunately guarantees does not expire. I know it is frustrating but there are ways to play around guarantees. Sometimes you can even use them to your advantage against Soviets. I will explain it in a bit.
First of all, guaranteeing a country requires certain level of world tension. So, you want to be quick and grab whatever you can before world tension rises. Most of the time this can done by day one war goal justify or designated focus tree path. However, when you annex your opponent, small or big, world tension will rise significantly.
Second way is more interesting, it revolves around fooling the AI nations. And here is how:
HOI4 How to Get Around Guarantees
There is one single trick to do in HOI4 for avoiding guarantees. I will get into that in a minute. First you need to know more about the guarantee mechanic.
As I have said before, guarantee requires world tension. Once the world tension is enough, UK, France or any other remaining Allies country will start guaranteeing anyone you justify war goal.
But guarantee nation decision also takes 25 diplomatic power and + 25 political power for each country already guaranteed. Fifth guarantee takes 125, sixth 150, and seventh 175. After a while, allies will run out of diplomatic power and hit the artificial guarantee limit. In order to exploit this, you can justify and cancel war goals against multiple irrelevant countries around world. Once you break their diplo power, you can justify against your real targets and attack without any interference.
Now you know how to get around guarantees in HOI4. So, how about learning exploiting guarantees? There is one way to exploit AI guarantee spree and it is highly situational. However, I believe it is still fun nonetheless. As you have already know, Soviet Union always attacks Finland. %99 times it ends up in white peace. This war happens because of the Soviet Union focus tree. So, what do we do? We justify war goal against Finland so that allies send a guarantee. Once the Soviet Union gets the focus tree and the event, full scale war blown between allies and Comintern. As an Axis, Japan or non aligned nation, you will highly profit from this warfare. Because it gets both Soviet and Allies off your back.
