Welcome to the list of games where when you die you stay death and lose all the progress you’ve made to that point. That’s called permadeath ladies and gentleman. Today, I’ll share the 15 best games with permadeath mechanic.
GAMES WITH HUNGER < Another key feature.
Roleplaying games with permadeath are the hardest ones to play because you identify with the character you’re playing. So, try not to emotionally attach yourself to your character in permadeath games.
Best permadeath games:
1. Don’t Starve
14 more don’t starve like permadeath games.
2. The Long Dark
3. The Binding of Isaac
4. FTL: Faster Than Light
5. Darkest Dungeon
6. Rimworld
7. Battle Brothers
Battle Brothers did it pretty well bc when a character dies, they have a chance of permadeath or a permanent injury that has a random (from trivial to significant) debuff. It also had a mechanic where if a soldier got hurt but didn’t die they would have an injury to recover from, which incentivizes having a few backup guys at all times anyway. Ultimately, it was disappointing when one of my best guys died, but it was never such a huge blow I felt the need to restart. Fire emblem however, I’ve never been able to play a proper run of.
8. Noita
9. This War of Mine
10. We Who Are About To Die
11. Ancient Domains of Mystery
12. Dome Keeper
13. State of Decay
permadeath zombie game
14. Sunless Sea & Skies
Sunless Sea and Sunless Skies. Sure, there’s an option to turn it off, but family lineage and inheritance are an integral part of the game. Besides, playing with an option to just reload after I made a stupid mistake would ruin the general mood.
15. Minecraft
Hardcore mode is the sub-mode of the survival mode with permadeath! When you die in Minecraft hardcore mode, you get “game over” screen instead of “you died”. Meaning all your progress will be lost upon death.
Minecraft is very casual video game, but it has permadeath option for hardcore gamers looking for real challenge.
Random creeper encounter has never been this scarier before!
