Welcome to the ranking of top 15 import and export themed video games list. I like games with trade mechanics. Especially the ones with international trade / global trade. Who knows, maybe I will run my e-trade business in real life some day! But let’s stick with the video games for now.
World runs on import and export you know. Almost everything we buy is imported, if not, its raw materials are imported.
- Import: Goods or services brought in from one country to another.
- Export: Goods or services sent to another country for sale.
10 different games that are using import-export mechanics:
1. Tropico 6
Tropico 6 is the game that inspired me to do a list on the import export themed video games.
It’s a city builder set in a Caribbean island where you take control of a corrupt dictator, El Presidente!
There are 26 raw and 26 processed goods (52 total) that can be produced, imported, and exported in Tropico 6. Teamsters transport the good all over the island. Cargo ships come and go. It’s very fun to build a production line and trade routes in a game like this.
There are 4 eras in Tropico 6 and each era has different trading partners. Last era includes USA, EU, Middle East, Russia, China, Caribbean nations, and pirates.
2. Anno 1800
Anno 1800 is another city builder economy simulation, just like Tropico 6.
Building a port city in the early industrialization is very rich. I’d even go as far as to say Anno 1800 is the best Anno game yet. Because it’s the perfect era for this type of city builder.
The game already has import, export, and trade mechanics. However, you’ll need the Docklands DLC for a real import / export experience.
3. Captain of Industry
4. Citystate 2
5. Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic
6. Railgrade
7. Manor Lords
8. Lords and Villeins
9. Let Them Trade
10. Factory Outlet
11. Beer Factory
12. Stellaris
Stellaris is a sci-fi 4x grand strategy game from Paradox. It’s set in a galaxy full of wonders. Your duty is to explore, discover, and colonize the stars as a fairly young species who’ve just discovered faster than light travel.
In this game you can import and export all kinds of resources on the galactic market. There are 3 basic (energy, minerals, food), 2 advanced (alloys, consumer goods), 3 strategic resources (exotic gasses, rare crystals, volatile motes), and 4 rare resources (zro, dark matter, living metal, nanites) you can trade.
You can also play as a mega-corporation in Stellaris to fully control galactic trade.
13. Hearts of Iron IV
14. GTA Online
Import / Export is one of the businesses you can start in GTA Online. Import is basically stealing though. You go and steal luxurious cars, modify them, and sell them overseas.
Vehicle warehouses are used for importing and exporting operations. Can upgrade and utilize warehouses as you see fit.
It’s very fun if you like dealing with cars. The game is called grand theft auto after all.
