Do you like zombie genre and the role playing games? How about a combination of both? If that is the case, you will enjoy this top 10 zombie RPG games list I made. There are various zombie RPG games in completely different styles below. Such as action, first-person, third-person, text-based, isometric, turn-based, and etc.
Most of them have co-op support too. So that you can enjoy some good old zombie action with your friends. Have no friends? Don’t worry. Their single-player game mod is equally good.
Let’s get started. Here is my top 10 zombie RPGs:
1. Dying Light 2
Award winning zombie game, Dying Light 2 is amazing! It is not only the best zombie RPG, but also one of the best first person shooter role playing games. So, if you are looking to have some fun in 2022, give it a shot. Besides, you can play it with your friends too via co-op.
FIRST PERSON SHOOTER ROLE PLAYING GAMES
In Dying Light 2, the virus has won and civilization fallen back to the dark ages. The last settlement alive is on the brink of collapse. Can you survive and re-shape this crumbling world?
Unlike the first game, your choices really matters in Dying Light 2. Therefore it is really improved and much more interesting RPG game.
2. State of Decay 2
Looking for a good open-world zombie action RPG? Then State of Decay 2 will satisfy you surely. Also just like Dying Light 2, State of Decay 2 too can be played co-op with friends.
Again, civilization has fallen and the dead is the new host of this world. Your main goal is to survive. To that end, you will gather survivors, build your base, and frequently scavenge!
I like zombie games where you collect stuff and bring bang to your base. I gives that realism and The Walking Dead feeling to me.
All in all, State of Decay 2 is a great zombie RPG game to play in 2022.
3. Survivalist: Invisible Strain
Survivalist: Invisible Strain is a combination of Zomboid, Kenshi, and perhaps State of Decay. It has a unique gameplay, unlike anything you have seen before. Therefore there is no way of knowing if you’ll like it or not without giving a chance.
Story is something like this: Ten years passed since the zombie outbreak. Settlements are collapsing one by one. As a result, survivors are running to the hills to escape.
You play as just an another refugee, trying to fit in and survive.
4. Undead Horde
Tired of fighting zombies? How about controlling them? In Undead Horde, you play as a powerful necromancer, reanimating many zombies. It is a villain protagonist game where you try to kill living and raze their villages.
Lots of weapons, trinkets, magical items, and endless exploration awaits you! Explore and conquer, you are the necromancer after all.
There is no co-op mode though… At least you have your zombie friends.
5. Zombie Exodus
Are you not satisfied by modern zombie games? I know something you might like. That is text-based interactive fiction zombie RPG game.
Will you be a soldier, athlete, or scientist? Story begins with a daring escape from zombie infested city. There will be many choices to make in order to survive. And believe me when I say this, your choices matters a lot.
Zombie Exodus is a bridge between literature and role playing gaming.
Very well written 750,000-word interactive survival-horror novel Zombie Exodus will make you forget you are playing a game.
6. DYSMANTLE
In Dysmantle, you play as a survivor emerging from his shelter years after the collapse of society. Your shelter was safe and cozy, but your out of food now. There are lots of food out there, but also many zombies…
Best thing about Dysmantle is dismantling. You can break %99 of the objects in the game for materials. It is fun to do so because you can craft hundreds of things.
You can expect farming, fishing, hunting, cooking, crafting, fighting, and exploring. If you enjoy grinding, you will love Dysmantle.
7. Dead State: Reanimated
Let’s continue with a narrative-driven survival RPG, set in a undead apocalypse. Dead State: Reanimated is inspired from classic RPGs such as Fallout, X-Com, and Suikoden. It is kind of old but gold nonetheless.
Dead State: Reanimated combines many genres such as turn based combat, base building, social management, and strategy. In essence it is a high-tension survival RPG. Also the game is set in Texas, which is probably the best place to end up in a zombie apocalypse. Because of the gun availability.
8. Dying Light
Even though it is one of the best zombie RPG games of all times, I ranked Dying Light 1 number 8. Because Dying Light 2 is already number 1 on this list. Anyway, let’s proceed. Dying Light is an open world first-person action survival game. There are many zombies to fight, quests to take, supplies to scavenge, and weapons to craft in it.
From the creators of Dead Island and Call of Juarez, Dying Light emerged and has won over 50 awards. It was really revolutionary for its time and set new standards for FPS zombie games.
9. Dead Island
Dead Island offers the most interesting zombie apocalypse experience of all times. Zombie outbreak was never this beautiful, because the game is set in a tropical island of Banoi. Literally paradise meets hell…
The first release was at 2011. However, Dead Island is fully remastered with improved graphics in 2016. Therefore it is a playable beautiful game even in 2022, what’s more, it has a co-op support. So, explore, craft, fight, and survive!
10. Dead Age
Final Fantasy style turn based combat meets zombie apocalypse in Dead Age. Basically it is a non-linear rogue-lite survival RPG, where you must manage survivors, craft materials, and make difficult decisions.
Just after the zombie outbreak, you and a group of survivors managed to secure a camp. But it is not enough… Without any delay, you must gather food, medical supplies, and water! Of course they are not easy to get because the world is filled with hungry zombies.
