First game comes to mind when you mention thieving is, you know, Thief, Thief the game! It’s actually a franchise that started in 1998 with Thief: The Dark Project. Series of games released throughout years but most of them are now outdated. Except the last Eidos Montreal release Thief 2014. Which is still pretty good and gives you the thrilling feeling of thieving.
In this game you play as the Master Thief Garett. Even the most cautious citizens and their exceptionally guarded possessions are not safe from your reach. City is yours for the taking after all.
You can choose different approaches and tools for your heists. That’s what I like the most about Thief, the freedom.
2. The Elder Scrolls Series
Thieving in Elder Scrolls games is amazing. It’s so rewarding, you forgot anything else and start robbing NPCs blind. To be honest, it was Elder Scroll games that awakened my love for the thieving game genre.
Most of you already know about Skyrim but still, I want to talk about it a little. In Skyrim or any other Elder Scrolls Game, you can steal pretty much anything your eyes can see. Since it’s an open-world game, your options are limitless.
Sneaking, pickpocket, lockpicking, and illusion spell trees in Skyrim made for thief character. So, master them and you can steal everything. Also, there is a thieves guild questline in Skyrim. I don’t want to spoil it, but you should know, it’s amazing.
3. Thief Simulator
First two game I’ve mention above are set in fantasy setting mixed with slight medieval themes. That’s not the case with this one. Thief simulator set in modern era. So, get ready to steal electronics, technologic house furniture, cars, and more. Then launder your loot in shady pawn shops. Basically, you’ll do everything a modern thief does in this day and age.
There is no story or whatsoever in this game. It’s a thieving simulator that is set in huge sandbox neighborhoods. Love the freedom.
4. Thief of Thieves
Thief of Thieves, very interesting name. It’s a game about a cat burglar who is not only using stealth, but also social engineering to pull of high-profile heist. It’s based on the Robert Kirkman’s award winning comic book series also using the same name. So, if thieving genre is thrilling for you, read the comic book too.

5. Kenshi
Kenshi is similar to Elder Scroll games in terms of freedom and open world. In Kenshi, you start as a drifter with no money or skills in a hard-core fantasy world.
