Hardest RPG Decisions

7 biggest dilemmas and hard choices in role playing games.

hardest RPG decisions

We are talking about hardest RPG decisions on this page. Therefore, spoilers are inevitable. So, read this article at your own risk. I know for a fact that spoilers ruin the experience immensely.

So, now that we gave a huge warning about spoilers, it’s time to discuss hardest decisions in role playing games. I can think of 7 hard choice I’ve personally encountered in RPGs. If you can think of any other, please let us know by leaving a comment.

RPG CLICHES

Role playing games are all about decisions. You decide your characters looks, class, skills, spells, attributes, and of course the actions in quests. If your actions don’t change the world and have real consequences, it’s not an RPG! A real RPG is all about decisions, choices, and consequences. That is why role-playing games are really popular.

7 hardest decisions in role playing games:

1. Paarthurnax Dilemma

Blades questline and Delphine are the worst things about Skyrim. She plays power-games with dragonborn and asks you to kill harmless dragon. What a megalomaniac…

In order to continue with the Blades questline, which is the main quest by the way, you need to kill your former master, old wise Paarthurnax.

I mean, without Paarthurnax, dragonborn could never defeat Alduin. Blades are literally scum, especially Delphine…

Also, the game almost forces you to kill Paarthurnax. You can decide not to kill him, but the quest will stay in your journal forever. Lucky for us, Paarthurnax Dilemma quest mod fixes that.

You can reject to help Delphine with Paarthurnax Dilemma and still progress in the questline. Blades will hate you a little but who cares?

2. With Friends Like These…

Skyrim dark brotherhood questline has the weirdest intro. You help poor little Aventus Aretino, then the Dark Brotherhood literally kidnaps you.

You wake up in an abandoned shack with 3 other people. Astrid, Leader of the Dark Brotherhood ask you to kill one of them to leave alive! She says there is an assassination contract on one of them. You can talk with each person to know a little bit about them. They are obnoxious characters but killing none deserve dying.

You can kill one, two, or all of them! Psycho… But you can also attack the Dark Brotherhood leader Astrid. If you manage to defeat her, she’ll say well done in her last breath. Was the assassination contract targeting Astrid? Or she was just testing the dragonborn? Guess we’ll never know.

Some even say the contract was on dragonborns head. But after seeing the capabilities of dragonborn, Astrid decided to recruit dragonborn instead.

3. Death or Digital Immortality

The Devil ending of Cyberpunk 2077 is the most interesting one offering player a huge dilemma.

Your entire journey of trying to get rid of the chip comes to an end. V has 6 months left to live because of the Relic. There are two choices now.

Will you sign a contract to become the property of Arasaka and achieve digital immortality via engram or simply go back to earth and die in 6 months.

If you go back to earth, you 6 months will be a torment and all your friends hate you for turning your back on them.

If you sing the contract, you’ll become a corporate slave.

It’s one of the worst RPG endings you can get…

4. Kill or Spare Nikolaos

We witness a tragedy at the very beginning of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Clairvoyants condemns the newborn sister / brother of main character to prevent fall of Sparta. Unfortunately, the father Nikolaos does nothing to stop it. What’s worse, when main character tries to stop the clairvoyant, Nikolaos steps in and drops MC from the cliff. His very own child…

Yet, destiny stored something bigger for our assassin. He / She survives and years later comes back with a revenge.

Here is the hard choice you have to make. You can literally spartan kick your father from the hill… You can spare him too, but he has no regret and takes pride in being a spartan.

Damn you Nikolaos. You had to protect your children…

5. Yennefer or Triss

They’re both babes! I can’t make a decision between them. Wish I could be polygamous and wife up both Yennefer and Triss. They are literally the most beautiful video characters ever.

It’s a hard choice but yeah, my answer will always be Yennefer. Because Geralt and Yennefer are made for each other.

For me the second hardest decision in the Witcher 3 is the choice between Olgierd and Gaunter. Both are my favorite Witcher 3 characters. Making a choice between the two was very hard! Witcher 3 really has amazing DLCs.

About the mods… You can turn Triss / Yennefer into followers and do some other things with mods. I urge you to check out Witcher 3 nexus.

6. Pathologic 2 Who to Cure?

Pathologic is a dark RPG. You’re a newly arrived medicine men in a plagued town. Unfortunately, medicine is highly limited. You can’t save everyone in Pathologic 2.

You must choose whom to give cure and whom to let die. No person should be faced with such decision…

Worst thing about it is the fact that you can choose to keep medicine for yourself. Do you want to risk game over or save innocent children?

Pathologic 2 has the hardest choices.

7. 3 Companions in BG3

There are bunch of possible companions in Baldur’s Gate 3. But you can only choose 3 of them. It’s up to you to choose BG3 best party composition. I don’t like to make a decision between all these beautiful characters.

It’s the same with Divinity Original Sin 2. The game has multiple companions, but you can choose only three. The rest will disappear after the act 1 because you didn’t choose them… That suck. You miss content, unique interactions, quests, etc.

Let me travel with all the available companions Larian. The more the merrier. I don’t mind travelling with bunch of people!

BEST RPG PETS

You gotta choose 3. It’s frustrating but also increases replayability. I personally choose Shadowheart, Laezel, and Gale. What is your ideal composition?
