Welcome to my personal list of the best HOI4 2 player co-op nations. Hearts of Iron IV is already so much fun as it is in single-player. However, it can be much more if you play with a friend of yours.
So, I am guessing you decided to play HOI4 with your friend. But can’t decide which countries to pick. Worry not, I will help you to choose the most interesting co op nations.
HOI4 Best 3 Player CO OP Nations
Here is the best two player coop nations in HOI4:
1. German Reich – Italy
Most iconic duo of WW2 and Hearts of Iron would be the German Reich and Italy. If you started playing co-op recently, this is the ideal nation pick for you guys.
This campaign might seems hard for new starters. You will have to fight against multiple great powers on multiple fronts. However, Hearts of Iron IV AI is not capable to handle two coordinated human players.
Form the axis and beat the allies. Time to re-write history with your buddy.
2. UK – France
Can you stop the rise of fascism in Europe? Work with your buddy to defeat German war machine.
More experienced player should pick France in order to prevent German Reich march on the Benelux borders. Forts would be your best bet on this. Once it is 1940-41, the big daddy USA will join allies. That concludes the war. Only if you can manage to defend yourself to that day.
3. USA – UK
Combine your forces and achieve naval + air superiority. Then start the historical Normandy landings to drive of Nazis.
USA-UK campaign is easier than France-UK one because you don’t have to hold German forces on the Benelux / Maginot lines. Just build your industry until German Reich declares war on Soviet Union. Then you can easily start the historical Normandy Landings without dropping any sweat.
4. Japan – Siam
Japan is really fun to play because of its early war potentials. Most suitable and historical ally for Japan is Siam.
Historical Japanese focus tree allows you to form Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere and invite Siam to the faction. Oh boy, China has no chance against this pact.
Once China has defeated, you can start conquering the rest of East Asia. After that your campaign is officially over. However, skilled players might consider invading USA. But believe me when I say this, it is going to be hard. Even with the Chinese manpower and east Asian resources.
5. French Commune – Soviet Union
Here goes the first communist duo recommendation of our HOI4 best 2 player co-op nations list.
France have many events and decisions to form a communist government. Besides its focus tree allows the Comintern membership. Well, that is going to shake the power balance in Europe. Or perhaps the entire worlds.
Soviet Union have huge manpower and industry. But its navy is basically non existent. Thankfully, France can cover that easily. Once both of you are ready, steamroll the European nations from both west and east sides.
6. Centralist Australia – Japan
Centralist Australia is the best ally Japan can get. Fascist Australia focus tree allows you to take both British Malaya and Dutch East Indies without going into full scale war. That of course takes tons of resources away from allies and gives it to the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere.
This duo is stronger than Siam – Japan one. So, try this for an easier campaign.
7. China – Guanxi Clique
Guanxi Clique is the strongest ally of China. Therefore making it the best choice for Chinese duo campaign against Japan aggression.
You guys will have tons of manpower but little to no equipment. But as long as you defend the front lines and naval bases, you can win. Japan can not sustain long battle against China.
It is going to be a hard campaign, however once you drive Japan forces away from the Korea, a peace event will appear. Then, there is nothing to stop you guys from achieving Chinese ambition.
8. Portugal – Spain
It is time to revive the Iberian union.
Portugal and Spain focus trees are recently revised. So, you guys can go fascist or communist without breaking a sweat. Also that alliance will help you to overcome Spanish civil war easily. Once all the civil war hassle is over, you guys can decide where to go next. Be opportunist and make an impact on the second world war.
9. Indian People’s Republic – Soviet Union
French commune is the strongest but the second best ally for Soviet Union would be the communist India. It is time to liberate India and cut its ties with the crown.
India is in a unique position. Can communism will be the right answer for the Indian people? Let’s find out.
10. Turkey – Kingdom of Greece
Unholy union. Geographically, you guys will be in the middle of the world. Therefore your options will be many. However, since they are both smaller countries, this campaign is only recommended for experienced players.
You guys can either go fascist or communist. This playthrough offers multiple choices. Have fun!
