Baldur’s Gate is an RPG franchise set in the D&D Forgotten Realms setting. D&D is a fantasy tabletop RPG. It has its own lore and story. So, Baldur’s Gate is a city in the D&D Forgotten Realms. Many games created in the Forgotten Realms setting and you can visit the Baldur’s Gate in most. Of course, there is also the Baldur’s Gate video game trilogy. I hope that little explanation made things clear enough. Finally, I we can begin the 6 best Baldur’s Gate PC games list.

I want to go back to the BG franchise. There are three main Baldur’s Gate games. The first two are really old though. They are released in 1998 and 2000. However, you can get their recent remakes from the steam platform. Enhanced editions are good, and every hard-core RPG fan should play them.
1. Baldur’s Gate 3
It is the latest Baldur’s Gate game and still on work. Larian Studios are doing a great job with BG3. Even though it is still an early access game, I can say that it is the best Baldur’s Gate game to play. Hell, it’s even easily one of the best role-playing games of all times.
Now gather your party and take a journey to the forgotten realms. You will love it. Graphics are great, game mechanics are modern, and the ratings are overwhelmingly positive.
You are probably asking this question should I play Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 before 3? The simple answer is no. You don’t need to play the first two games in order to enjoy BG3. Because it is not a direct sequel.

2. Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition
Here is the first game of the Baldur’s Gate franchise. It is released in 1998 by BioWare. Baldur’s Gate was so good, it brought brought technical advancements over RPGs for its era.
Baldur’s Gate is a cult classic role-playing game now. In 2013 Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition released as remake for the modern computers. Enhanced edition introduces higher resolutions and +400 new improvements to make it playable for today.
Diehard RPG fans must play it because this is the game that started all.
3. Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Baldur’s Gate 2 released in 2000 and remade in 2013, just like the first game. It is an isometric RPG as well.
You are looking at a game that is a direct sequel to the first Baldur’s Gate game. Therefore, you really need to play the first game before going for the second.
The story between two games remains unchanged. They both story rich and have amazing narrative. But BG2 have little upgrades on the gameplay.
4. Dark Alliance
Dark Alliance series are little bit more different than the Baldur’s Gate 3 franchise. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance is more like a hack & slash game. Like Diablo series.
So, if you like the genre and the D&D universe, you might enjoy it. December 2021 remake is accessible on steam.
This remake introduces nothing new really… Other than slightly polished graphics. Still, it is a fun game you can play with your friends in co-op mode.
5. Dark Alliance II
Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II is a spin-off game released in 2004. It is really an old game, but you can play the remastered version released recently in 2022.
This remake version adds new heroes too. So, I want to talk about the game itself too. Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II is an old school action RPG. Hack and slash as well. Best thing about it though is the co-op option. It is a good co-op game to play in 2022 thanks to the remade.
6. Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance
D&D is back with a twist! Now it is a 3D action game. Sounds amazing right? Well, critics and ratings disagree.
Anyway, Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is a hack & slash third person action game. It’s little quirky and feels rushed. But, fun nonetheless. Especially with playing with friends in co-op mode. I guess you can give it a shot. It is something different and 2021 release after all.
How many Baldur’s Gate games are there really? There are 6 of them. But sometimes people include DLCs to increase this number. Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is not really a Baldur’s Gate game, but it is set in the same universe.
