Do we stop playing HOI4? Not at all.
First of all, 5 speed is too much for multiplayer HOI4 and not possible. Perhaps even 4 speed, if one of the players have slow internet connection. You game lobby is as strong as the weakest PC / internet.
So, what do we do? On this instance, mod creators comes to our help. There are multiple mods available to boost HOI4 performance. I have complied them below. Still, HOI4 slow down late game no matter what.

Less division mod just that I have just mentioned works for both single player and multiplayer by reducing the AI division limit. But is is not the only mod. There are two other mods specifically made for multiplayer performance.
First one is called SOO Optimization. This mod claims it can take you to 1939 in 1 hour with 10 player in multiplayer! That is bold and I like it. Here is the mod-page. Its features are various bug fixes to speed up, reflective water, file upgrades, and basic optimization. Total 10.000 subscribers. This HOI4 less lag mod might help speeding things up.
The second one is The Spot Optimization mod. It has 70.000 subscribers because it is an older mod. I don’t know what does it do. Because mod author don’t tell the specifics. But if it works it works. Check out HOI4 speed up time mod workshop page.
