What is Weighted Dice in BG3? Explained

Baldur's Gate 3 weighted dice for better rolls.

bg3 weighted dice

What is the weighted dice option in BG3? Weighted dice is a cheat method used in gambling way back then. It simply increases the chance of higher rolls because of the small iron weights inside the dice.

BALDUR’S GATE 3 PROBLEMS

Weighted Dice in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a cheating system that can be activated via in-game user options. Activating weighted dice basically increases chance of roll success. It only effects the second roll, after you fail the first one. That is a mechanic that focus on eliminating frustration of bad roll strike. All in all, it is a great option to have. Because I would have re-load the game after a bad roll strike anyway…

In tabletop gaming, this is called loaded dice.

Is it considered cheating? Well, slightly perhaps… It is not a game-breaking cheat that gives lots of advantages. However, if you are hard-core old school RPG player, you can turn it off to experience brutal consequences. Let the RNG have its way with you!

I like modding my BG3 dices because vanilla dice models are pretty dull.

BG3 Dice RNG

RNG is a huge aspect of D&D tabletop gaming. Since Baldur’s Gate 3 is a D&D 5e game, naturally it has a lot of RNG. It is understandable that some players treat BG3 as a classic RPG rather than D&D. Therefore, RNG is really frustrating to them. One way to reduce the effects of RNG in BG3 is weighted dice.

Weighted dice slightly effects RNG into your favor. Thankfully it is an optional feature. Larian Studios leaves this decision to players. Think of it like an easy difficulty setting.

It effects dialogue checks, attack rolls, saving throws, and everything. But only after having some bad rolls. Because otherwise it would be game-breaking cheat. All in all, loaded dice is simply a bad strike prevention.

Of course, some people like the RNG. Baldur’s Gate 3 is fun because of this randomness. So, let me know in the comments what you think. Do you prefer the RNG or weighted dice? I would like to know your take on this. See you soon, take care.
