Will there be a real time combat in the future of Baldur’s Gate 3? Well, Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 was using real time combat mechanics. What about Baldur’s Gate 3? It currently does not have real time combat in it. But it is also in early access. Could they implement real time battle option in the future? The answer is in the article below.
The thing is, Larian Studios (developer & publisher) hates real time combat. They didn’t include that option in their Divinity series. Which is pretty similar to the Baldur’s Gate 3. So, it is easy to assume that they won’t include real time battle in Baldur’s Gate 3 too. What about mods though? Could someone pull this off? I would like to see a mod that completely changes the combat engine. Not sure if it is possible but you can expect almost anything from the mod community.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Real Time Combat
The thing is, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a dnd 5e game. So, it should be played in a turn based system. Besides, every aspect of this game is designed for turn based combat. Baldur’s Gate 3 engine might not allow it no matter what. I wouldn’t want to break the game mechanics only for live action combat. Especially when the turn based system is already okay.
I remember another isometric RPG game, Pathfinder. It had real time battle mechanics and it was working pretty well too. But even in real time combat, you need to pause the game couple of times. Because controlling 4 characters is hard in real time. You know, they all have their own spells to cast and potions to use. What about lone wolf you say… Guess I have no answer for that in particular.
Those who enjoyed BG1 and 2 is disappointed with turn based combat system. But it is not hard to get used to. Eventually, you will be okay with turn based system, perhaps even enjoy it in time. Just like I did.
At least we can play in real time out of combat. If you are stuck in turn based BG3, even out of combat, you probably activated a feature. Which can simply be disabled by pressing shift + space.
All in all, we should not expect a real time battle for Baldur’s Gate 3 in the future. I believe it is already good as it is now. Opinions and preferences might differ of course. Do tell me your opinion of Baldur’s Gate 3 combat mechanics in the comments section. I would like to hear your thoughts.
