games like dos2

Divinity Original Sin 2 is one of the best isometric RPG I have ever played. The story, gameplay, choices, narration, voice actors, literally everything about this game is amazing. You can check out the Divinity Original Sin 2 voice actors here. Huge kudos to whoever is part of this masterpiece. So, what is next? I want to play more games like Divinity Original Sin 2. So are you I assume. Otherwise, why wouldn’t you be here?

In order to be like DOS2, a game must be in RPG genre. As well as isometric if possible. But what else? My main worry would be the story and freedom of choice. Are there any game like that out there, similar to Divinity Original Sin 2. Indeed there are, plenty of them actually. I have managed to find and list best 20 games similar to DOS2.

HUGE OPEN WORLD RPG GAMES

I did not included Divinity Original Sin 1 to this list because that would be unnecessary. Still it is the closest game you can get to the Divinity Original Sin 2. Other than Baldur’s Gate 3 of course. Well, let’s begin our list with Baldur’s Gate 3 and we will go on from there.

Best games like DOS2:

1. Baldur’s Gate 3

Closest game to the Divinity Original Sin 2 happens to be the Baldur’s Gate 3. Because it uses the same mechanics and created by the same developers. Developers in Larian Studios does know how to make an enjoyable game don’t they?

It is using D&D 5e rules in case you are interested in Dungeons and Dragons. If not, don’t worry, the game does not require you to have any pre knowledge. You can also skip the first two Baldur’s Gate games. After all BG3 is not a direct sequel.

BEST BALDUR’S GATE 3 MODS

Anyway, it is one of the best RPG I have ever played and I highly recommend you to try. There is one downside though. Baldur’s Gate 3 is an early access game and not fully released yet. Still, you can enjoy the act 1, which is filled with content.

2. Kenshi

Kenshi is an open world squad based RPG. In this unique world, you can become anything you want. Be an adventurer, a trader, a farmer, or hired blade. Or perhaps you want to be a bad guy. If that is the case, you can be a thief, a warlord, slaver, or even a cannibal.

Form your squad and make a name for yourself in this unforgiving world. It’s sandbox nature offers highly re-playability too. But be careful, Kenshi is highly addictive. You can easily lose your hundreds of hours without even noticing it.

3. Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous

Wrath of the Righteous is the latest game of Pathfinder fantasy RPG series. It offers an epic journey to a realm, overrun by demons. The best part about this game is options to choose good or evil side. Become a celestial angel or a raging demon. There are many options like that in this game and every choice matters.

In story aspect, Pathfinder is really close to Divinity series. That is why if you enjoyed DOS2, I am %100 sure you will enjoy Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous.

The prequel of this game is Pathfinder Kingmaker and it is at number 6 of this list. I recommend you to play it too. However, you don’t need to play it to enjoy Wrath of the Righteous because it’s not a direct sequel.

4. Alaloth: Champions of The Four Kingdoms

Let’s continue with an another beautifully designed isometric RPG. But this time with a twist, real-time combat.

By the way, Alaloth: Champions of the Four Kingdoms is really a violent game. Because it is based on medieval dark-times of the past. Mixed with magic of course. I really like dark fantasy games.

This old school RPG released in 30 June, 2022. So, it is quite new game, but great nonetheless.

5. Solasta: Crown of the Magister

Second D&D based game on our list is Solasta: Crown of the Magister. It is using a license for Dungeons and Dragons SRD 5.1 Ruleset. What does it do?

It brings back the thrill, tactics, deep lore, and amazing storytelling to PC. Take your turn and roll the dice in this amazing isometric RPG

About the story, in this game you travel with your group in the shattered world of Solasta. In Solasta’s history is tainted by an age-old cataclysm. Your main objective is finding its reason and preventing it from happening again.

6. Pathfinder: Kingmaker

Pathfinder: Kingmaker is the first isometric party-based PC RPG set in pathfinder fantasy universe.

First release was in 2018, PC exclusive. Then it is released for both PlayStation and Xbox in 2020. So, if you like to enjoy your games in a couch with a controller, you can do it with Pathfinder: Kingmaker.

If you like it, which is a high probability, you can play the next game, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Which is number 3 game on this list.

7. Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire

Meet the sequel of the award winning Pillars of Eternity, the Deadfire. It is developed by my favorite gaming studio, Obisidan Entertainment. They are the king of role playing game developing, that says something.

You don’t need to play the first game in order to enjoy POE 2. However, I recommend you to play the first game too. Because many choices carry over and you can transfer your character to the next game.

Still, if your time is limited and you can’t handle the old games, just start from POE2.

8. Avernum 3: Ruined World

Do you want to wander freely through an epic huge world? This fantasy RPG offers to much freedom and various choices. However, it is an old school RPG and you might find it difficult to play. But believe me, Avernum 3 is really fun to play, if you can handle its graphics.

Avernum 3 features:

9. Disco Elysium

Do you like detective role playing games? If so, you should play this ASAP.

Disco Elysium is not like other isometric role playing games. You don’t go out there and kill everything you encounter. Instead, you develop your skills as detective, make hard choices, and explore.

DISCO ELYSIUM LIKE GAMES

It is one of the highest rated RPG of our time and offers an unique experience. Voice acting is top notch too. So, what are you waiting for?

10. Torment Tides of Numenera

What does one life matter? Torment: Tides of Numenera is a philosophical RPG and the thematic successor to Planescape: Torment. I did not include Planescape: Torment to this list because it is pretty old game. However, if you don’t mind old graphics and clunky gameplay, give it a try. Also, you can check out the list of my top philosophy games.

Torment Tides of Numenera:

There is one downside though. Unfortunately most dialogues are not voiced. So, if you aren’t into heavy reading from a monitor, you can skip it.

11. Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark

Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark is a turn based tactical RPG. It is the spiritual successor of Final Fantasy Tactics and highly inspired from it.

You control a group of arbiters in a fantasy world. Your main object is preserving stability of the region. However, it is not an easy task. Be ready to face difficult encounters and hard choices.

12. Eschalon: Book I

Eschalon: Book I is an old school RPG that released in 2007. It is really fun and completely free. However, graphics are old and the gameplay is hard. So, if it doesn’t suit your needs, simply check the other games in my games like Divinity Original Sin 2 list.

It is almost an Ultima like game. Still it is similar to DOS2 in terms of turn based isometric RPG genres.

13. SpellForce 3

An interesting blend between RTS and RPG hails you! It has a really unique system for a role playing game. So, if you want to try something different, I say go for it.

SpellForce 3 is set in a fictional fantasy universe called Eo. In this world you can create your character, explore, make friends, raise an army, and have epic battles.

Also I want to share interesting. SpellForce 3 narrator is voiced by Doug Cockle. Same voice actor of Gerald from the Witcher 3.

14. FATE: The Cursed King

Final chapter in the classic action RPG series is FATE: The Cursed King. It is a dungeon crawler RPG with a party system.

Fishing, many armors, spells, weapons, dungeons, creatures, and allies are waiting for you! But be careful, this sweet classic RPG is highly addictive.

15. Stellar Tactics

This sci-fi role playing game offers space exploration, character customization, hard choices, and action. Recruit a crew and upgrade your ship! Because you have a vast universe with +160,000 star system to explore.

BEST SCI-FI RPG GAMES

So, if you enjoyed X-Com, Jagged Alliance, and of course Divinity Original Sin 2, you will love Stellar Tactics.

16. UnderRail

First post-apocalyptic RPG on this list is UnderRail. It is set in a distant future, when the life on Earth’s surface is no more. Humanity now dwell in the Underrail. It is like the Metro series, but this time in isometric RPG style.

It is quite similar to DOS2. However, instead of exploring with a group, you travel solo in UnderRail. Evidently, this mechanic have its both upsides and downsides.

17. Wasteland 3

Wasteland 3 is the second and last post-apocalyptic RPG I will recommend. It is a party based role playing game highly focused on the story reactivity. You will really enjoy the fully voiced dialogue system.

BEST DIALOGUE FOCUSED ROLE PLAYING GAMES

Assemble your squad and lets roll. Also you can play Wasteland 3 with your friends. Just like DOS2, Wasteland 3 too supports co-op multiplayer.

18. Final Fantasy Tactics

This is my favorite PS1 RPG. Unfortunately, it isn’t ported to PC. However, you can use emulator to play it on PC. Emulator used to work horribly in the past. But now they run the games very smoothly.

This cult classic game sold over 1.24 million in Japan during 1997. Since then it is considered one of the greatest video games of all time.

Final Fantasy Tactics is one of those PS1 games that are still playable and you should give it a chance if you like the genre.

Story takes place in the middle ages inspired Kingdom of Ivalice. It is heavily populated with humans. Magic is predominant in the land but there are airships and robots too. So, this epic journey must definitely be experienced by hard-core RPG lovers.

19. Wartales

I don’t know why I ranked Wartales in the 19th place. Because it is super fun game released in 2021 December. Wartales gameplay is very similar to DOS2. It is isometric, turn-based, open world and an RPG.

BEST MEDIEVAL RPG GAMES

Wartales tells us a story of a mercenary band in medieval ages. It is quite simple actually. You take bounties, recruit companions and explore! Of course you will have to make many choices in your journey. Will you be a good mercenary with principles or scum of the earth?

20. XCOM 2

Final game of my list of games like Divinity Original Sin 2 is happens to be the XCOM 2.

XCOM 2 is a turn-based sci-fi strategy RPG.

Earth has changed and is now ruled by aliens. You must take up your arms and fight for humanities salvation against their oppressive overlords. Recruit freedom fighters, research, develop, upgrade and fight!

DIVINITY FALLEN HEROES LATEST NEWS

This game has some RPG elements but they aren’t many. I wouldn’t call it a non-RPG or True-RPG. But it is still a role playing game.
